Moab

From bucket list stop to
“Should’ve Stayed Longer”

WHERE WE STARTED

Moab had a perception problem. Not an awareness problem.

The world already knew Moab as a beautiful adventure mecca. But its story had become fragmented, positioning it as a bucket-list stop rather than a destination worth slowing down for.

The opportunity: Take back the narrative. Reach a more conscientious, curious visitor and inspire them to see Moab differently—not as a place to snap the shot then leave, but somewhere to really dig in. Stay longer. Go deeper. Try more.

The Moab Office of Tourism issued an RFP for brand development and creative services with dozens of proposals submitted, but ultimately chose a dark horse duo whose passion and understanding of the destination was unrivaled—Camp4 Collective, a creative content studio and production company, and TOURIST, a creative and strategic agency for travel brands.

THE CHALLENGE

How do you turn a place people check off into one they can’t stop exploring?

MOT needed a brand that could:
• Expand the perception of what a Moab experience looks like.
• Give people both the motive and means to explore beyond the obvious.
• Celebrate the community and culture alongside the landscape.
• Create a distinctive voice in an increasingly crowded destination category.
• Build a flexible brand system that could live across campaigns, content, digital, social, and physical experiences.

RESEARCH / WHAT WE LEARNED

So we went to Moab. And listened.
We sat with residents, stakeholders, and business owners in small listening sessions about what good tourism looks like for the people who live here, and we had real conversations with visitors on the trails and in town about what brought them and what they’d remember. Around those conversations, we did the homework — pulling apart Moab’s existing brand and economic data, studying how competing destinations position themselves, and tracking where travel itself is heading.

And one insight stopped us:
• 90% of visitors wished they had stayed longer—before they had even left Moab.

THE STRATEGY

IMMEDIATE AWE & UNFOLDING DEPTH

The strategy became about expanding the definition of a Moab trip.

Not just the parks.
Not just the iconic adventures.
Not just the things you already know you came here to do.
And not just alone, but with a knowledgeable local guide.
The unexpected. The local. The cultural. The in-between.

We positioned Moab as a place with more to discover than you can fit into one visit.

FROM STRATEGY TO BRAND PLATFORM

WHAT DRAWS YOU IN IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
WHAT STAYS WITH YOU IS MOAB’S PROMISE.

The strategy gave us the idea. The platform made it something Moab could build on for years.

For Moab, that promise lives between the first impression and the lasting one — the awe that pulls you in, and the depth that keeps unfolding the longer you stay. It’s a promise the place can keep, and one no other destination can claim the same way.

Visual Identity

Build a brand that feels like Moab—not a postcard of Moab.

We developed a visual identity designed to move beyond the expected visual language of destination marketing.

The system balances:
The boldness of the landscape.
The character of the community.
The unexpected nature of the experiences.
The inherent optimism and adventure of Moab.

From typography and color to graphic elements, photography, icons, and applications, every part of the system was designed to work together while leaving room for the destination to surprise people.

The brand needed to feel as expansive as the place itself.

CAMPAIGN CONCEPTION & DEVELOPMENT

Truth: Moab is bigger and deeper than whatever trip you planned for it.

With the brand established, we set out to build a campaign with a few keys tasks:
• Don’t tell people about Moab. Tell them what happens when they get there.
• Built from research, not assumptions.
• Made for the visitor. Vetted by the community.

And we couldn’t stop thinking about how:

Over 90% of visitors we talked with said they planned to return or wished they’d built in more time—before they’d even left. Because spending any time at all in Moab makes you realize you…

Should’ve Stayed Longer.
